Creation of a saddle for DUCATI GT1000
In 2006 Ducati presented the GT 1000, with the aim of re-proposing the style and class of the legendary 750 GT to the public. A fairly innovative and original vintage project for the time, which unfortunately was not repaid by a good commercial success.
Aesthetics, finishes and price: the three limitations that penalized the GT 1000.
Equipped with the 1000 DS engine with twin spark ignition, the bike is technically valid, but from an aesthetic and manufacturing point of view it is a bit ungainly and discontinuous.
For these reasons, the final result fails to hit the mark of the Ducatist imagination. The timing of the market launch was probably just wrong, because over the years, the GT1000 has acquired value and charm in the eyes of the riders.
The saddle of the GT 1000 that arrived in our laboratory had precisely these aesthetic-functional problems. The customer asked us to streamline the original saddle, and give it a retro touch by changing its colour.
It is possible to see in the photos the thickness of the original saddle and its "rounded" shape.
We have modified the plastic shell, cutting it on the sides in order to create a slimness with the thinning that would make it slimmer.
We then also reduced the padding on the sides, trying to reduce the seat space between the rider's legs.
Following a smoothing and remodeling of the padding, we brought the saddle into shape, according to the customer's specifications.
The personalized lining, chosen by our rider, is in veined leather-colored eco-leather.
The customer wanted a golden yellow quilted lettering on the back.
The lining has been quilted in stripes along the entire seat.
Once mounted on the bike, it is possible to notice the differences with the original saddle.
A more linear and ergonomic base.
Even the combination of the chosen colors recalls a retro taste.
The improvement in terms of comfort, which is not visible in the photos, completed the job and satisfied the customer.
